Judging Criteria

JUDGE RUBRIC (1=lowest - 5 =highest) 

No specific there for this competition; work evaluated on: Authenticity, Simplicity, Emotion & Composition concept, selection and application of materials, and complexity/level of digital technology used.
 

Technique

1.         Evidence of poor craftsmanship, complexity, and technical skill.   Poor application and use of materials and/or aesthetic quality (design, composition, color/tones).
 
2.         Below average craftsmanship/technical skill. The finished product that lacks finishing touches and aesthetic quality (design, composition, color/tones). Application of materials, and complexity (level of digital technology used) appears to need improvement.
 
3.         Average craftsmanship and technical skill.  The artwork is adequate but would be improved with more aesthetic quality (design, composition, color/tones). Application of materials, and complexity (level of digital technology used) is satisfactory. Impractical or unenthusiastic written submission materials.
 
4.         The artwork is finished with a high level of skill.  Lacks a few finishing details. Above-average craftsmanship, composition, and aesthetic quality (design, composition, color/tones). Comprehensive and fervent written submission materials with some thought process.
 
5.            The artwork is outstanding and finished with great attention to care and detail with technical excellence. Great overall impression and aesthetic quality and command of the medium. Professional artistic impression effort and exhibition. Inclusive and passionate written submission materials with clarity in the thought process.

 
Concept

1.            Artwork lacks creativity, expression of original thought, and or uniqueness. The theme is weak, trite, stereotypical, or copied with no elaboration, Incomplete or poorly written submission materials.
2.            Artwork lacks creativity, composition, and original thought. The artistic theme, composition, and design of the work is not fully developed. Poorly written submission materials; lack coherence, correspondence, and inclusiveness.
3.            The artwork shows evidence that an idea was tried but lacks originality throughout the artistic, composition, and design of the work.  Average degree of originality; theme is present with little elaboration in logic, and comprehensiveness.
4.            Creativity in expression and individuality in thought. Above average, degree of originality throughout the artistic, composition, and design of the work. The theme is present with some explanation of clarity in the thought process, coherence, correspondence, and inclusiveness.
5.            The superior degree of originality exhibited throughout. Very unique solution; the theme has been explored and elaborated on to a high degree of clarity. Distinctiveness in the conceptualization of thought processes. A complete and outstanding work of art with creative excellence.

Judges Comments

The composition and design of the work is also a judging criteria.
Note: The quality of the images submitted will also play a role in the judging process. It is best if the images submitted are no smaller than 600px.

  • Does the work impact the viewer?
  • Does the work stand on its own as a complete and outstanding creative image?
